Loft aesthetics and industrial elements in the interior

The harmony of the loft was achieved in an unusual way: the architect used paradoxical design techniques and combined dissimilar details – the interiors turned out to be intriguing, unexpected, stylish, and very comfortable.

An apartment in a monolithic-frame house was decorated with enthusiasm and pleasure. The hostess, an erudite, energetic, sociable travel lover, well aware of contemporary design trends, enthusiastically supported the designer’s original ideas. As a result, all the wishes of the customer were successfully implemented: in addition to a spacious studio that combined the kitchen, dining room, and living room, equip a separate bedroom and office without turning the premises into cramped rooms, and also design two full-fledged bathrooms with bathtubs, a utility room, and a dressing room. At the same time, it was possible to preserve the space inherent in a real loft and necessary for easy communication – the owner of the apartment often receives guests.

Redevelopment

The apartment has undoubted advantages: a simple layout is practically subject to the law of axial symmetry, the plan is close to a square, three large panoramic windows provide a lot of light, and in the center, there is a slightly protruding bay window with a smooth arc – opposite it is the front door.

Bearing pylons outlined the division into rooms. The location of the kitchen was changed – it was moved to the current, using the area that was intended for the corridor. On both sides of the kitchen built into the niche, there is a passage to the hallway and a door to the utility room. Custom-made double-hinged doors with classic profiles and glazing lead to the bedroom and study; from the bedroom, you can go to the dressing room, and from it – to the bathroom. From the hallway through a small vestibule there is a passage to the guest bathroom and utility room.

Repair

The apartment had to be poured with a screed, the new walls were erected mainly from real Finnish hand-molded bricks – it gave credibility to the loft aesthetics, which they decided to focus on. The level of the ceilings lined with plasterboard was lowered minimally in the living quarters and somewhat more in the utility rooms, which made it possible to provide ducted air conditioning and the outdoor unit was placed on the balcony. The floors in most interiors (entrance area, studio, utility rooms) were tiled with porcelain stoneware tiles imitating a massive board, in the living rooms – with a massive board made of natural wood. The hot water boiler was placed in the utility room.

Design

Choosing the image of the interior, they combined seemingly incompatible solutions. On the one hand, there is industrial, valued by the customer in the spirit of New York and Chicago lofts, on the other hand, various decorative elements, to which, as in the old days, the soul gravitates. It turned out elegantly and at the same time naturally, with a touch of elegant negligence. The open brickwork does not dominate but creates an enlarged rhythm. Due to the large windows and high-glazed doors with transoms, the studio looks spacious and solemn. Thanks to the layout and almost ascetic range, the space has gained light and deep breaths, and the scale of the interiors seems to be more significant.

We aimed to create a comfortable space, the core of which is the kitchen, suitable for both culinary experiences and socializing. Of course, the main character is a person, but the interior will be in harmony with almost any new items. As one of the hostess’s friends noted, “here, even a bunch of parsley in a glass glass will look fantastically beautiful.” Especially for the living room, the owner painted two paintings with the characteristic names “Conversation” and “Without Words”. Furniture for the kitchen is made according to our project, for it we used Italian facades of their ash. The tabletop of the island on a metal frame is lined with decorative tiles with an arabesque pattern, and an induction hob is built into it. The side facades are finished with thin (3 mm) white porcelain stoneware slabs with a glossy surface, they optically hide the volume and are more durable than conventional facades. In the laundry room, in addition to storage cabinets, there is another refrigerator and sink, as well as water filters – the room can be used as an additional kitchen area.
