Current trends in the interior for 2023/2024

What to look for if you are planning changes in the interior? The publication is based on Zoe Tee’s webinar for interior designers. Zoya is a professional trend analyst and an expert in the psychology of color perception. Although color today is not the main thing.

Now trends are based not on the thirst for new things, but on the desire to protect themselves from external threats. We subconsciously choose what compensates us for the discomfort. As a cat, getting to the summer cottage for the first time, chooses green grass, although no one told her anything about it.

Now people need protection from external threats, and not actual, but psychological ones. When our brain feels safe. Almost all current trends are based on pleasing him.

Nature and naturalness

Nature and naturalness are very understandable and are chosen for peace of mind. The new materials are a surprise. We do not know what to expect from them, we think about whether it is dangerous or not. It is easier to choose what has been tested for centuries.

The natural is that which is associated with the natural. This is imperfection heterogeneity in texture. It can be either print or a form or image. For example, for this reason, the hydrangea chair, which appeared in 2021, became popular:

Every year it becomes more obvious to everyone – you should not choose plastic things with natural prints. Plastic has discredited itself, especially its imitation.

The trend is the combination of several natural materials in one interior and even in one product. The finish is matte which is more natural.
The consequence of this trend was the fashion for a high-tech combination of two materials in one product:

Texture

This trend allows you to satisfy the tactile hunger. It is relevant for a long time. It was customary for us to greet and hug when we met, to hug loved ones. Isolation has changed our habits, but the need remains. Therefore, items that are pleasant to touch, in which you can comfortably dig in, will be in demand.
What changed? There are more textures. Previously, when using wood in the interior, other details were selected from the same wood. Now they take different types of wood for one room.
New methods of surface treatment are used to create texture, hyper-texture is welcome.

Safety and stability

The trend for safety is already 6 years old, stability is a very fresh interior trend.
More recently, we have marveled at floating beds (under which all types of vacuum cleaners quietly crawl), and the illusion of floating kitchen cabinets and walls. All this is a thing of the past until the external situation stabilizes. In the trend, everything is stable and comfortable. Massive furniture and hypertrophied stability.

Structure and graphics

The trend is clear structures built on simple geometric shapes. Such interiors are understandable, well readable, and do not make the subconscious mind worry.

Infantilism

This trend has now become relevant all over the world.
While some are looking for stability, others run away into infantilism. Polka dots, colorful details, patterns that would be more suitable for a child’s room, plush toys…

And in the interior like this:

Search for roots and experience of ancestors

Without our own experience, we turn to the experience of our ancestors and bring cultural codes to life. Old sewing machines, spinning wheels, and tin cans, just like in childhood. It is better not to catch direct analogies with the past but associative ones. Traditional manufacturing, traditional ingredients… Tradition is the key word we can cling to.

The most important thing about our X that it is for
those who are in a hurry
