Trends 2023/2024: cinematic furniture by Rafael de Cardenas

Designer and author of fashion inspirational interiors Rafael de Cardenas presents a collection released by the American furniture company Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams (MGBW). This series of 19-piece sculptural furniture looks like an interpretation of a collectible design for a wide audience. “I wanted to create an accessible version of furniture from movie interiors that I was drawn to as a child – Demi Moore’s apartment in The Fires of St. Elmo and Geraldine Page’s apartment in Woody Allen’s Interiors,” says the designer. “Also, I was inspired by the Ralph Lauren apartment designed by Angelo Donghia in the 70s and how incredibly modern and clean it seemed at that moment.”

The range from de Cardenas takes into account every room of the house. The collection includes the Full Moon chest, the Darling console, the Lotus accent table, the Saturday sofa, the ornate Sunbeam armchair. Upholstery can be selected from over 500 fabrics. “The effect I wanted to achieve was a warm and laid-back look that was upbeat and thought-provoking about the game, a little Mannerist.”
