Color of 2022 according to Pantone: Very Peri

The Pantone Color Institute has announced the color of 2022. The new shade PANTONE 17-3938, or Very Peri – “the dynamic blue hue of periwinkle with a life-giving purple-red tone combines the fidelity and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red, which together creates an inspiring combination of novelty,” the company’s experts said.

It is noted that 2021 was a year of transformation: most people, after the events related to the pandemic and quarantine, reconsidered their daily lives and began to look for new ways of interacting, doing business, and communicating. According to the institute, it is Very Peri that symbolizes these changes.

The color of the next year is surprisingly a kind of mixture of shades of previous years, and, perhaps, therefore, does not seem radically new. It also reveals the influence of the two favorites of 2016 (serene pink and sky blue), ultraviolet of 2018, and “living coral” from 2019, and classic blue from 2020. Even the Pantone commercial shows how similar colors merge with each other, forming Veri Peri. Thus, it is a kind of “recycled” tone that can also mean gender defocus.

The unsaturation, and implicitness of Veri Peri reflects uncertainty. This muted color coincides with the promise of another year of transition. “The color of the year reflects what is happening in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for, this color can hopefully answer. As society continues to recognize that color is an important form of communication and a way to influence ideas and emotions, the complexity of this new blue with a red-purple tint highlights the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead of us,” said Lori Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
