Kvadrat and Patricia Urquiola presented textiles made from ocean plastic

Designer Patricia Urquiola developed Sports fabric for the Danish brand Kvadrat. According to the manufacturer, the new product is the world’s first upholstery textile made from recycled polyester, made 100% from ocean plastic waste. The manufacturer collaborated with the team of the #tide project, which collects waste from the ocean to then transform it into new products. The plastic from which the fabric is made was found in Thailand, within 10 kilometers of the coastline. Patricia Urquiola was inspired by sportswear and technical fabrics, so the textiles are characterized by tactile structure and fine graphic patterns. Sport is available in a wide range of colors: it includes neutral and rich, warm and cool shades that highlight the characteristic texture of recycled polyester or, conversely, make it less noticeable.
