Trends 2023/2024: 4 trends in interior textiles

Where can trendsetters, clothing manufacturers, and fashion stylists look for inspiration today? This is the question asked by the organizers of the International Textile Exhibition Intertextile Apparel 2023, which will be held in August in Shanghai. They propose to find the answer here by studying the new collections and current trends for the fall-winter 2024/2025 season.

The exhibition is divided into two sessions: Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Autumn Edition and Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition. The first will focus on interior textiles, and the second on fabrics for clothing and accessories.

The uncertainty of the modern world dictated the main theme of the exhibition, stated as “Contradiction.” Exhibitors, including nearly 1,000 international and Chinese exhibitors, are invited to immerse themselves in an exploration of how to harness traditional values and new influences in the world of fashion: combining dreams and reality, the material and virtual worlds, yesterday, today, and even tomorrow.

The Intertextile Directions trend committee consists of four trendsetters: Sachiko Inoue (Tokyo, Japan), NellyRodi agency (Paris, France), DONEGER | TOBE (New York, USA) and Elementi Moda (Milan, Italy). The “Contradiction” concept conveys four main theses trends.

PURIST
 | What is purity

We are invited to retreat from the sophistication and luxury of high fashion, taking a step back – to silent simplicity and rationality in order to enjoy peace and serenity. Natural purity and beauty of untouched nature, neutral and natural tones, discreet elegance, and natural fabrics are the key concepts of this trend. It is illustrated by natural or undyed but delicately processed materials such as recycled and regenerated fabrics, high-quality wool, cashmere, or cotton.

NAIVE | Return to simplicity

The source of inspiration lies in the craft traditions and production secrets of past masters. The charm of handcraft, folklore motifs, and life in harmony with nature come to the fore. The neo-retro palette is designed to evoke nostalgia and warmth, healing for the modern human mind. This trend will be represented at the exhibition with vintage fabrics, recycled materials, hand-woven leather, patchwork, jacquard, and mixed fiber textiles, as well as new products that skillfully combine tradition and modernity.

HYPNOTIC | Power in magnetism

The world of fashion and trends is in many ways a world of fantasy. Hence the interest in textile designs that combine ephemerality and reality. Fairy-tale images, amazing patterns and color schemes spied in the virtual world appear textiles are decorated with beads, fringe, and other decor. The trend is represented by a display of premium fabrics including silk, cupro, polyester, and cellulose fiber.

SPECTACULAR | We create impressions

This trend is all about “a breathtaking scene with an inexplicable atmosphere” where genuine luxury, decorative elements, and experimental aspects merge together, merging the real and virtual worlds. In the world of textiles, the trend is represented by thick and dark fabrics with extravagant, dramatic, luxurious features and elements of sustainability. It features an ornate jacquard, bold designer embroidery, thick satin, elegant tweed, metallic plating, and layered gold.

From 16 to 18 August Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Autumn Edition. From 28 to 30 August – Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition.
