A duo from Sweden created a chair design in virtual reality

Instead of physical meetings, Gustav Winst and Alexander Lervik organized several sessions in virtual reality using VR glasses and the digital platform Gravity Sketch. The result of their collaboration was a model of a sculptural chair called Reality, which is distinguished by its free form and convex, seemingly inflatable volumes. To realize the design, the duo turned to sheet metal craftsmen who specialize in, among other things, shaping motorcycle gas tanks. The chair is made of polished aluminum, and the only visible weld lines can be seen where the seat structure meets the legs and backrest. According to the designers, this overall project was an excellent example of the synergy of new technologies and traditional craft techniques.
