Creating the Perfect Teenage Girl’s Room

We suggest how to design a room for an adult daughter: how to choose the right design style and the necessary details.

General space planning tips

The modern design of a room for a teenage girl aged 11-16 implies multifunctionality. The room must have:

  • A place to sleep.
  • A table for study and creativity and shelves for storing books.
  • Wardrobe with drawers and shelves, mirrors.
  • Dressing table.
  • Sofa, ottomans, bean bags to sit with friends.

Ideally, you should also equip a sports corner or leave free space for exercise.

The space must be safe. Usually, kid’s bedrooms are small, so it is better to choose furniture without sharp corners in order to avoid injuries and bruises. As for the material, MDF or wood are the most suitable options. They emit less formaldehyde than laminated chipboard and last longer.

When choosing a chair and table, give preference to options with adjustable height. They are more comfortable and you won’t need to buy a new set when the child grows up.

Try not to clutter up the room with different objects. It is uncomfortable and makes it difficult to concentrate and relax. Even a small room can be arranged beautifully and practically. Let’s talk about this further.

We beat different areas in the interior design of a bedroom for a teenage girl

How to decorate a small room

Small space 9-12 sq. m . requires a minimalist approach. There are various tricks that allow you to save the treasured meters.

  • Loft bed. You can sleep on the second floor, and put a table and a wardrobe downstairs.
  • Daybed with drawers and extra bed. Inside you can put things you don’t need at the moment. Well, additional space is useful for guests.
  • A wide window sill transformed into a desk (examples in the photo below).
  • Dressing table with folding mirror. It easily transforms into writing.
  • Built-in wardrobe with mirror and lighting.
  • Regular small sofa. It also has a storage compartment.
  • Folding bed.

Light colors are preferred. Use white, beige, milky, and other pastel colors. You can zone such a bedroom with color accents. For example, highlight the wall behind the bed.

How to arrange a space from 14 sq. m.

Such areas give more room for imagination. You can put additional cabinets or hang more shelves, equip a resting place for guests, and have bedside tables. If there is a lot of space, try dividing it with textile curtains, shelving, or stained glass panels. It looks nice and organizes the interior.

Place the work area near the window. To the left of it if the girl is right-handed, to the right if she is left-handed. On the table, you definitely need a table lamp and an organizer. The color of the walls here should be neutral so as not to distract from the study.

It is desirable that the rods in the cabinet be located at eye level. Consider also a place to store shoes.

How to decorate a narrow room

In this case, the combination of colors is of great importance. We recommend leaving long walls light. Visually shorten their vertical stripes. The ends, on the contrary, can be darkened. Suspended structures make such a space heavier, so it’s better to just paint the ceiling white.

For an elongated layout, zoning is relevant with the help of racks that let in the daylight. To save space, use a folding bed and tables, and a retractable podium bed. If the bed is near a window, separate it with a thin canopy curtain.

If there are high ceilings in such a nursery, you can arrange a second floor where the child will sleep. Under the canopy is a closet and a chest of drawers. And the rest is for study and recreation. Try not to clutter up the room with unnecessary decor. Leave a direct passage from the window to the exit.

How to optimize the interior of a room for teenage girls if there are two

In this case, you need to show miracles of ingenuity and use square meters so that the sisters do not have a reason to quarrel. A corner complex with two beds upstairs and with free space under each of them is a godsend for such a situation. Especially if you have a small area at your disposal. There will be no disagreement about who sleeps upstairs, and downstairs you can put ottomans, a sofa, a table, hang shelves, and install a chest of drawers.

Look at three more interesting bed options in the photo below. If the area allows, equip sleeping and study places in different corners. Every teenager needs personal space, their own hanging shelves, and drawers for storing things.

Important details: wallpaper, lighting, decor in a teenage room

When choosing a wall covering, you need to build on two criteria. The first is the personal wishes of the child, the second is practicality. Most likely, posters, stickers, and drawings will be attached to the walls. Ordinary paper wallpapers will do. If you want to choose a more durable option, pay attention to vinyl and non-woven products. It is more robust, and it is moisture resistant (which means there will be less dust in the apartment). Interlining is even more practical – it can be painted over several times.

If the girl has no preference, choose neutral colors for the ceiling, floor, and walls. After all, you can always diversify the interior with the help of bright things, and the classic palette will be relevant for a long time. Good color combinations:

  • Apricot + cream / beige.
  • Turquoise + mint.
  • Mint + orange.
  • Green + blue + beige.
  • Turquoise + pink.
  • Yellow+black/gray/wood light.
  • Pink + white and others.

How to arrange lighting

A chandelier located in the center is not enough even for a small room. Additional light sources are needed: table lamps, and bedside lamps. If you want to add coziness to the room – hang garlands with warm shimmer, put night lights, and LED bars. They can be placed above the bed, window, or anywhere else.

What decor to use in the room

Hang a clock on the wall (next to the study table), posters, and memorable photos. On the floor, you can lay a small carpet of calm or bright colors. But remember that a large amount of textiles is not always appropriate: dust quickly accumulates in it, and this can cause allergies. In housing with high ceilings, you can hang a hammock, a swing chair, and zone a resting place with a canopy.

If the child does not mind, be sure to add potted flowers to the room. There is no need to occupy the entire window sill with them: one or two plants will diversify the interior and bring benefits. For example, ficus, chlorophytum, and sansevieria reduce the amount of formaldehyde that almost all furniture and other items emit. In addition, these plants are very unpretentious and tenacious – it is enough to water them once a week and keep them close to the window.

Teenage girl’s room: interior design in different styles

There are many design solutions for arranging a nursery. We will talk about the most popular ideas.

Scandinavian

This modern style is perfect for a small space. Minimalism, comfort, and a lot of light are the main characteristics of such an environment. Furniture and decor can be found in Ikea or among old things. For example, a Viennese chair will fit perfectly.

Shabby chic

The predominant palette is pastel. Worn, aged surfaces, lace, flowers, ruffles. The direction can be described as romantic and vintage.

High tech

The opposite of the previous style. Its features: metal and glass objects, the absence of carpets, fabric curtains (not always), and wallpaper. The walls are smooth: more often white, gray, or black. They can be decorated with monochrome posters.

Modern

This design will appeal to those who appreciate simplicity and convenience. There are no clear criteria for choosing decor and finishing materials – there is only a general direction. It includes simple lines, soft colors, and functionality.

Classic

Mandatory features of the “eternal” interior :

  • Furniture made of wood or wood-like material.
  • The walls are light, plain, or with an inconspicuous pattern.
  • Laminate or linoleum in the color of the furniture.
  • Thick curtains, tulle.

Parisian

An option for dreamy girls who prefer to see sophistication and romance around them. What defines Parisian style:

  • Pretty little things with no practical use.
  • Beige or white wallpaper.
  • Carved or forged dressing table.
  • Posters with views of the city.

New York

Suitable for teenagers who love more informal spaces. To create the right atmosphere you will need:

  • Finishing “primitive”: wooden floor, whitewashed walls, ceiling.

  • Vintage furniture, items.
  • Unusual textiles.

Minimalism

Collective style – contains the features of hi-tech and modern. A little softer than the first and a little more restrained than the second. In such a nursery, bright colors are allowed, but in small quantities and without additional accessories.
