Beautiful and sustainable: 4 answers to questions about wooden furniture facades

What type of wood is better to choose, what to look for when buying, and how to care for furniture in order to preserve its appearance and performance – we tell in detail in the article.

Wood looks beautiful, lasts a long time, and is an absolutely pure natural material. That is why it is so popular, especially for manufacturing furniture facades. After all, they play a major role in appearance. Catch a brief digest on the main points related to the choice and care of wooden facades.

1. What breed to choose?

Different wood types differ not only in strength but also in shade. Which variety is easier to work with, and which one should be avoided?

  • One of the most expensive species is oak. It is durable, it has an attractive texture and a pleasant color.
  • Pine is a popular material for kitchen sets, which is not inferior to oak in terms of characteristics. It differs only in a brighter texture.
  • In addition to pine, another coniferous species is used for the manufacture of kitchen facades – larch. The set of this wood perfectly withstands the difficult conditions of the kitchen: high temperature and high humidity.
  • It is more difficult to work with a spruce board, but furnishings from it are more durable than, for example, from pine. In addition to this, spruce boards have good moisture resistance.

2. What are the shades of wood?

All types of wood can be divided into three color groups: dark, light, and intermediate.

Dark shades include walnut, wenge, mahogany, and black wood. These rich colors look good in classic interiors, the owners of which want to emphasize their respectability.

Light shades are birch, ash, pine, and beech. Recently, due to the growing popularity of the Scandinavian style in the interior,  light furniture has become especially relevant. Such facades are chosen not only for the kitchen set but also for cabinets or shelving in the living room, office, and wardrobes for the bedroom.

It is customary to attribute cherry, alder, and oak to intermediate tones. It is these tones that create a cozy pastel range in the interior.

3. How to properly care for wood furniture?

  • In order for wooden furnishings to last longer, it is important to maintain the microclimate in the room: the material does not like high humidity, too dry air, too bright sun, or high temperature. Optimal parameters: humidity – about 70-75%, and air temperature – from 15 to 23 ° C. To create comfortable conditions, ventilate the room more often in summer, and do not forget about good heating in winter.
  • By the way, about heating – you should not put a cabinet next to a battery or heater. Too high temperature and dry air can cause cracks and deformation of the product. Do not place furniture in direct sunlight, the facades may fade or change color to a less attractive one.
  • Furniture must be kept clean. Dust is best brushed off with a dry cloth, and spilled liquid should be promptly wiped. Have you thought about general cleaning with the washing of facades? Use gentle chemicals and no abrasives, otherwise, you can damage the “living” surface. It is optimal to wash the furniture with a mild soapy solution. Avoid acetone, alcohol, and gasoline, they corrode wood.

4. What to look for when choosing?

Obviously, it is worth buying only from a trusted seller who provides a guarantee. And in the case of wooden objects, this is doubly important, because unscrupulous manufacturers often use a damp or fungus-covered board in production. There is no need to talk about durability here. Wood is a very sensitive material, and processing errors can happen even in a large enterprise, not to mention handicraft production. The most frequent “defect” – after a short time, the varnish begins to come off, or the furniture begins to “move”: cracking, deforming, changing its shape.
