How to plan the perfect garden: 5 main rules

Are you planning to decorate a garden? We tell you what to consider in order not to make mistakes

1. Monitor the location of underground utilities

Planting trees and plants will require an engineering plan – a scheme of underground communications: electricity, gas, and water supply. Then, during the planting process, you will not stumble upon wires, because of which it will be necessary to change the entire garden project.

An engineering plan can be requested from the company that installed the communications.

2. Divide the site into zones

Decide which parts you will divide the backyard into and how much space you are ready to allocate for each of them. Usually, there are four zones:

  • residential (house, summer kitchen, and patio);
  • economic (various outbuildings);
  • garden;
  • recreation area (gazebo, swimming pool, and barbecue area).

3. Don’t Forget the pavement

After you have planned the zones, you can move on to pavement. It is very important that they pass where it is most convenient for you to walk.

It is not at all necessary to make them straight: wavy lines will be much more interesting. It is best to connect the tracks into a single route – this is practical and will look holistic and beautiful.

4. And terrain

You may need a vertical layout – an artificial change in the existing terrain by dredging, adding soil, or softening the slope. This technology prevents water stagnation and evenly distributes moisture in the soil.

For vertical planning, it is best to contact specialists – they will create the optimal relief for your site and plants.

5. Consider the features of your area

Mark on the plan the direction of the winds, the time and place of the occurrence of shadows during the day, and the location of warm and cold places. After that, it will be easy to understand which plants will take root, and which, on the contrary, it is better to refuse. For example, the most shade-tolerant are linden and alder, astilbe and hydrangea, and those who love the sun are roses and daylilies.
