UNStudio plans to build a building with a minimal carbon footprint

Architects showed the design of The Kyklos office building in the Luxembourg district of Belleval. To reduce the possible carbon footprint as much as possible, the studio, together with the local bureau HYP Architects, will use a hybrid approach to construction. For example, the sustainable design was based on UNStudio’s own concept, created to calculate and monitor the carbon impact of the building, while the team chose concrete and recycled steel as the main materials. The architects say their tool, called Carbon Builder, allows architects to identify the most sustainable building option early on in a project. The new complex will become the starting point in a large-scale master plan, which involves the transformation of the industrial quarter into a dynamic urban center. The building, with an area of 7,600 square meters, will accommodate eight floors of office space and will feature predominantly sharp corners that echo the geometry of the surrounding buildings.
