Loft atmosphere: chipped brick and aged wood

Feature of the project: through minimal redevelopment, a one-bedroom apartment was transformed into a space with two bedrooms and a representative area that includes a living room, kitchen, and hookah space.

PLANNING DECISION

Explication: 1. Entrance hall 3.6 m². 2. Kitchen 14.1 m². 3. Living room 21.7 m². 4. Bedroom 15.6 m². 5. Son’s room 11.8 m². 6. Bathroom 5.4 m². 7. Loggia-hookah 4 m².

TECHNICAL DATA

The total area is 76.2 m².
Ceiling height 2.51–2.68 m

After evaluating the original layout, the designers proposed the following option for reorganizing the apartment. The summer room (loggia) will be attached to the kitchen, for which the window sill, window, and balcony glazing, as well as a heating radiator, will be dismantled. The latter will be transferred to the partition wall released from the demolished fence. The opening will be reinforced with metal structures. As for the heating system of the newly connected volume, an electric underfloor heating and a convector can be used in this capacity. The configuration of the combined kitchen and living room will remain unchanged. Nominal border between the functional areas there will be a bar counter, which will be located at the “junction” of volumes. In addition, the ceiling level above the kitchen will be lowered, which will also contribute to the isolation of the cooking and eating area. The living quarters will also be rescheduled – by means of a partition it will be divided into two unequal parts. The one that communicates with the living room will have larger area. It will be the parents’ bedroom. The second, smaller “half” will be taken to the nursery.

Living room

The apartment does not have a corridor, and the “communicative” function will be performed in the living room. That part of the room that is located on the aisle will be freed from furniture,
and the routes of movement will be “duplicated” with ceiling lighting. To design a fragment of the “passage” wall, different materials will be used than for the decoration of other vertical surfaces –  photo wallpapers with the image of rusty metal and concrete will be placed under transparent glass and set in a metal “frame”.

Kitchen

The ceiling above the kitchen and the loggia attached to it will be noticeably lowered in order to visually separate the cooking area from the representative part of the room; in addition, a ventilation duct will pass under the ceiling from the hood to the ventilation box. Artificially aged boards will serve as a material for ceiling decoration. They will be arranged in squares according to a scheme resembling a playing field on a chessboard.

Loggia

The seating area is formed by a custom-made sofa – one large and several small plump pillows, stacked on wooden pallets.

A single style with its inherent colors is maintained in all rooms.

Bedroom

The wall at the head of the bed is tiled in antique brick, painted black. The perimeter of the sleeping bed will be decorated with foam blocks plastered under concrete, covered with aged boards, like the headboard. The comfort of a night’s rest will provide an orthopedic mattress.

Children’s

The boundary between the bedrooms will be a partition made of tongue-and-groove slabs and complemented by a large “window” based on an aluminum profile and a single-chamber double-glazed window. As a finishing material, a painted board is used.

bathroom

Instead of a bathtub, a shower compartment is equipped in the room, which, coupled with a well-thought-out arrangement of plumbing fixtures (including a toilet bowl with a hidden cistern),
will make it possible to allocate space for a washing machine – it will be hidden behind the hinged door of the utility closet.

Hallway

In order to preserve the visual integrity of the walls in all rooms, including the hallway, invisible doors will be installed. They will be mounted in a box without platbands and decorated in the same way as the adjacent walls.
