Brick-like wallpaper in the interior: tips for choosing and 70+ design ideas

Since the middle of the last century, the loft and other industrial styles have introduced a fashion for embossed surfaces into interior design. Brick-lined walls add individuality and expressiveness to the room. Against the background of raw surfaces, furniture, kitchen appliances, and decor elements look spectacular. But it is not always possible to use natural materials for decoration. An alternative to it can be wallpaper – a brick wall in the interior looks like a real one.

The advantages of using brick wallpaper in the interior

Brick cladding is a long, complicated, and costly process. Wallpaper against this background stands out for its simplicity and economy:

  • Lightweight does not load load-bearing walls and foundation;
  • You can stick them on your own, without the help of a special master;
  • A thin canvas does not eat up space, unlike bulk bricks;
  • You can decorate a small room in one day;
  • Easily replaced by other wallpaper if necessary;
  • Used to decorate light structures, such as plasterboard partitions.

Kinds

Brick drawing is reproduced on a different basis: paper, vinyl, and interlining. Materials differ in the realism of the image, cost, and operational qualities.

Paper

Affordable, environmentally friendly, and easy to apply. They have a wide range of colors and patterns.

The disadvantages include poor resistance to abrasion, fading in the light, and insufficient relief of the pattern. Therefore, it is advised to buy washable varieties. They are designed for use in rooms with high humidity and temperature changes.

Vinyl

Very accurately imitates a brick surface – bulges, deepening of seams, cracks. Durable, well tolerate the effects of adverse factors. Easy to clean with a damp cloth. Conditional disadvantages include the inability to pass air, so most often this type is applied in kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.

Non-woven

Eco-friendly and safe for health. They have a densely textured surface. They have good air permeability, so they are used in bedrooms and nurseries.

Cons – interlining attracts dust, but regular cleaning compensates for this drawback. Many manufacturers produce non-woven wallpaper for painting, they can be painted in the desired color.

Color spectrum

When choosing the color of the bricks, you need to consider:

  • Room area – for small ones it is advised to take light drawings;
  • The degree of illumination of the room – for well-lit walls, it is better to choose textured, and for darkened ones, you can take smooth ones;
  • The desired interior style – for a loft or gothic style, you can paste over all the walls with imitation masonry, for other styles, it will be enough to use only on one functional area.

White brick wallpaper in the interior is successfully combined with a plain light-colored finish without a convex texture. Bright decorations and unusual textiles will dilute the feeling of fading.

Gray brick is the perfect backdrop for oversized furniture or decorative elements. It goes well with light-colored finishes.

The imitation of red masonry is appropriate in any room due to its warm colors. It does not go well with red and orange. But olive or black tones will look organic.

Black brick walls look luxurious in spacious rooms. They are well combined with white, beige, and sandy furniture.

Wallpaper for painting stands apart, which can be painted in any desired color.

Wallpaper for brickwork in the interior of different rooms

In the living room, an accent wall is decorated with imitation bricks, which will become the background for placing the main decorative elements: a mirror, a TV, paintings, and photos. With their help, you can also zone the room by highlighting the work area.

In the bedroom, most often they decorate the wall with bricks, which are located at the head of the bed. The decor of the bedroom is conducive to rest and relaxation, therefore it is recommended to use light shades. The imitation of a rough texture will be balanced by light curtains, a fluffy carpet, and a soft bedspread.

In the children’s room, brick walls will be met with a bang by teenagers. They make a great backdrop for posters and photos, evoking the trendy cafe setting. More romantic shades of bricks are suitable for girls: white, peach, and light gray.

In the kitchen, using masonry imitation, you can highlight the dining area. White goes well with wood, glass, and chrome-plated fittings. All shades of red are harmoniously emphasized by metal elements and wooden structures.

You can often see brick wallpaper in the interior of the hallways. This is a small space with no natural light. Using light shades, it and the corridor can be visually expanded and made lighter.

Moisture-resistant wallpaper is used for the bathroom. Just do not advise gluing them next to the sink and bathroom – this area is better to decorate with tiles or panels from other materials.

On the loggia, the imitation of masonry looks natural. For this room, it is better to choose vinyl or interlining, since temperature changes and direct sunlight are common here.
