Antepavilion competition returns after two years

The annual experimental public art and architecture competition has not been held for the past two years due to disagreements with the local Hackney Council. It restricted organizers from using Antepavilion’s main location, the Hoxton Docks warehouse. In 2024, the winning project will be built for the first time on a site in London’s Southwark, close to the busy Old Kent Road. According to the competition team, the new location is famous for its history of activist art installations. The leitmotif of the brief for the sixth Antepavilion was the theme of Earthwork, which, as the organizers add, is open to interpretation. The team advises contestants to pay special attention to interaction with the archeology of the site, as well as the reuse of materials. The winner will traditionally receive a prize of £25,000, which also covers the costs of constructing the facility.
