How to turn the bathroom into a place of relaxation: 8 self-care solutions

The famous eco-architecture expert Oliver Heath in his book “Design a healthy home” gives as many as 100 great ideas on how to equip a comfortable living space in a house or apartment, while improving the health and emotional state of all household members.

In his interior design guide, Oliver Heath talks in particular about how to turn the bathroom into a place where you can relax your body and soul. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with his advice – you immediately want to implement them!

Oliver notes that the bathroom is the first place we go in the morning and the last place we leave before going to bed. It is worth paying special attention to the space where we tune in to an active life during the day and relax before a night’s rest. What can be done in the interior of this small room?

First, think about how to arrange a bathroom in which it is pleasant to retire. Do not forget about the lock on the door for the opportunity to be alone. Create a rich, multi-sensory environment in your bathroom. Here are some good ideas.

Multiple soft lighting options

Lighting on a cabinet or mirror, or dimmable lamps, will do. Add magic: to create a peaceful evening atmosphere, arrange small islands of light.

Pay attention to the backlight at the mirror: your face should be well-lit.

Tactile Variety

Let soft towels, bath mats, fluffy bathrobes, and massage brushes always be at hand – this will make your SPA day luxurious!

Sprawling plants

They will help create a restorative environment. If you have a small bathroom, plants can be hung from the ceiling or placed along the walls to save space. If there is no window in the bathroom, flowers will feel great in it, which has enough artificial lighting – Tradescantia, Philodendron, Monstera, Aspidistra.

Good ventilation

Good ventilation and the ability to open a window in the bathroom, if any, are helpful in high humidity when water gets on the floor and wet towels hang in the room.

Soothing scents

Do not forget about diffusers, aroma candles, and bath oils: for example, the aroma of lavender for relaxation in the evening, and the smell of citrus fruits in the morning for cheerfulness.

Sensory contrasts

When designing your bathroom as a place of relaxation, add sensory contrasts to enrich your time spent in the space. Use cool floor tiles and soft floor mats, warm water, and hard washcloths.

Natural hygiene products without parabens

Your cosmetics should not irritate the skin. Have several herb-scented soaps to choose from according to your mood.

The place to be if you want to be alone

Perhaps someone close to you will want to sit next to you while you take a bath, or brush your teeth together before bed. For some families, this is almost the only opportunity to discuss how the day went. A replacement for a closed toilet lid in such cases will be a chair or chest on which you can put a soft pillow and sit down. This is a great way to make the bathroom an enjoyable space to share.
