Studio Zeworkroom: monochrome apartment

The architects of the Zeworkroom studio call themselves “fans of natural materials”. Natural textures, the harmony of halftones, and custom design are the codes of their project. The Cloud Nine complex, designed by the Tsimailo Lyashenko & Partners bureau, is defined by the architects as a “thoughtful renovation”: “The historical building on Bolshaya Polyanka has been rethought, four buildings of the 19th–20th centuries are once again woven into the architectural fabric of the city.”

A family with two teenage girls bought an apartment in Cloud Nine that used to be a model apartment: in order to unlock the potential of the property, the developer made a full-scale renovation of it.

“Our customers had enough money to completely update the interior, but we offered to keep the maximum of what they got: doors, ceilings, communications, a kitchen island, parquet, which we sanded and re-oiled,” says architect Alexei Shibaev . — The “smart home” system was initially installed in the apartment, the lamps were divided into groups. However, not all scenarios suited the new owners. Smart Home helped: we were able to reprogram the light.”

They decided to remove the stone table top of the island, since cracks appeared on it, and finish the entire monoblock with marble. And trays were made from the old stove, giving a second life to the used material. “We are for conscious consumption. We strive to ensure that there is nothing superfluous and accidental in the interior, we question each lamp, and we double-check each accessory. We are categorically against cheap replicas, including because they do not last long. We prefer things that will not become obsolete either morally or physically for many years. Like, for example, the Hans Wegner chairs in the kitchen-dining room. An important property of a high-quality original, unlike a fake, is maintainability: design items of past years are subject to restoration, and they are again on sale. In some of our projects, we willingly take vintage.”
