A studio led by Italian architect Stefano Boeri has presented a master plan for a meditation center planned to be built at the Ramagrama stupa, one of the most important sites for all Buddhist pilgrims. The key elements of the bureau’s concept were two giant landscaped gardens surrounding the sacred Bodhi tree in the center of the stupa. Boeri notes that the future center will be a particularly significant cultural heritage project in Nepal. The architect also added that the master plan involves the use of predominantly local materials. Pilgrims will be able to reach the heart of the hilly area via one of four routes. Meditation and prayer areas will be located on the central lawn: an open space with a diameter of 600 meters will resemble the design of a mandala, a symbol of the universe.
