Jacques Garcia put Marie Antoinette’s chairs up for auction at Sotheby’s

French decorator Jacques Garcia puts up for auction Sotheby’s furniture and other items from his extensive collection. They once belonged to the French royal family – among the lots, there are chairs of Marie Antoinette and things related to the life of Louis XV.

Garcia has been collecting historical objects and works of art for 75 years, and many of these artifacts have an incredible, fascinating history. The interior designer is also known for restoring historic villas in many countries. So it happened and the castle of the XVII-th century Château du Champ-de-Bataille in Normandy. Garcia spent many years in love restoration. The auction is designed to raise funds for the future content of Château du Champ-de-Bataille, and the items are expected to far exceed the estimate and be worth a six-figure sum.

On May 16, 2023, 75 selected items will be sold at Sotheby’s auction. Many of them are associated with the royal family: chairs originally made for Marie Antoinette, and other things related to Louis XV and Louis XVI, as well as various royal and aristocratic characters.
